PS3 3.42 Update Blocks Jailbreak Hack
September 08, 2010
The PS3's latest software update (version 3.42), has patched the security loophole which allowed the PS3 to play pirated and home-made games after being jailbroken using the PSJailbreak or PSGroove tool.Mathieu Hervais, the creator of PSJailbreak, said that if users wished to jailbreak their PS3 console then they should not update. However, this would mean that jailbroken consoles would not be able to connect to the PlayStation Network or play games online, as users cannot connect online without completing the update first. Hervais also added that he didn't know how Sony fixed the security flaw.Sony had recently won a court case banning the sale of the PSJailbreak dongle, but soon after a free program named 'PSGroove' was released onto the internet which allowed users to jailbreak the console in the same way as PSJailbreak.
First *Supposedly Working* PS3 Modchip!!
August 19, 2010
QuoteIt seems as if the PS3 has been hacked with a new commercial USB Device called the 'PS Jailbreak'. This is like a 'HD Loader' which will allow owners to dump all original PS3 games onto a FAT32 hard drive and play the game entirely from there (similar to that of how the Wii is with its USB Loaders). This seems to turn your PS3 into a DEBUG unit hence this is why it works. But of course, in order for it to work, it may be using illegal codes from the PS3 SDK. It is said that the PS Jailbreak will run games 2x faster than Blu-ray, support homebrew and will be fully updateable. Before you jump up for joy...this little USB dongle retails for $170AUD ($150USD). Still want it? Also, this method can be squashed instantly with an update to firmware even though its said to be updateable (if they can find a method around Sony's blocked method - only time will tell).* PS Jailbreak is a USB plug and play solution that installs in seconds, keeping your valid warranty seal in tact.* Easy to use installer and GUI takes you step by step.Compatible with all production models FAT and SLIM. Supports all regions: USA, JAP, PAL and KOREA* PS Jailbreak disables forced software updates and will never brick your console.Supports all games (it does not allow backups of blu-ray movies, dvd movies, or past consoles games)* Backup games to your internal hard drive or external hard drive through USB, and boot directly off GUI. Eliminating the need for expensive blu-ray burners and costly blank media.Play backups off your hard drives 2x as fast as off the blu-ray drive. This eliminates lags and glitches to provide you with smoother game play.* Open up your console to a new generation of homebrew applications. Load homebrew apps/games off any USB hard drive/flash drive.* Fully updateable with new features/updates by connecting PS Jailbreak to any computers USB port.FAQ:Q: What firmware version does PS JailBreak it work on?A. It apparently works on a couple of old firmware verisons, but it was designed for the latest firmware version 3.41Q. Does PS Jailbreak allow you to dump ps2 games, ps1 game, Blu ray movies?A. No, just PS3 games.Q. Does PS JailBreak allow every game to work?A. Apparently 150 games have been tested, and they all work. If a game happens to have 1 file over 4gb the program will not be able to rip the game onto the harddrive. Apparently the worl around is to dump it on an internal hardriveQ. Can I still play online with PS Jailbreak?A. When today (19.08.2010) you can, we can't guarantee you will never be banned for using the 3rd party device.Q. Can Sony block this with firmware updates?A. Probably. The have have the USb dongle firmware upgradable, but you can never predict the future. This is made to work with 3.41. If you happen to download an install an update which is higher then this then it is your doing. We will not accept stock back as "faulty" if you have upgraded your firmware.Source: PS JailBreakLinks:DC Emu News Post (The quote above)Code: [Select]http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=321596PSX-Scene Post (First announced on PSX-Scene. (Also, I'll need a 500GB internal HDD to go with it. )However, it's also over 120 USD, so I'm going to wait until I seen something with a little better price. Apparently, clones are already on the way. This is the biggest thing to hit PS3 since Other OS was removed. LoLI don't think you could just download games ATM though, you need the original disc in the drive to rip it to the HDD. (Possibly a backup if you happen to have a Blu-Ray burner.)But still, this could eventually lead to other homebrew being possible, such as PSX, N64, and even Dreamcast emulators. Not to mention, NGC, PS2, and X Box(1) emulators as well. Hopefully even remove Cinavia, but now I'm just thinking way ahead of myself. This shit could still be a fake, but I have my fingers crossed.
Insomniac Reveal Two New Games
August 18, 2010
As expected, Sony confirmed at their GamesCom conference that Resistance 3 is indeed being made. Not much about the game has been revealed so far other than it will be set in New York City. The live-action teaser trailer gave nothing much away, but hinted that you would perhaps play as a survivor rather than Nathan Hale, who was supposedly killed at the end of Resistance 2.Insomniac also unveiled Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, and unlike Resistance 3, the trailer revealed quite a lot about the game. It is a 4-player co-op game that can be played either online or offline. The playable characters along with  the usual Ratchet and Clank will be Captain Qwark and Dr. Nefarious.Despite Insomniac now being a multi-platform developer, both games will remain PS3 exclusives since Sony owns the rights to both IPs.
Mass Effect 2 announced for PlayStation 3
August 17, 2010
EA have announced today at their conference at GamesCom 2010 that the critically acclaimed Mass Effect 2, previously only on Xbox 360 and PC will be making it's way to the PlayStation 3 in January 2011. 'Bonus content' will be included in the PS3 version according to BioWare's official website, which could be the DLC from the 360 and PC versions. However it appears that the first Mass Effect will not be coming to PS3, meaning that PS3 owners will not have access to the brilliant system in which players were able to import their character from the first game straight into Mass Effect 2.Nevertheless, rumours are circulating around the web about a possible release of the original Mass Effect on PS3 with the name Mass Effect: Genesis. This name change would allow EA to publish Mass Effect on the PS3 without a lawsuit from Microsoft, who published the game on Xbox 360. This is similar to the way Ninja Gaiden II was brought to the PS3 with the name Ninja Gaiden Sigma II.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer Trailer Teases Video Editor
August 10, 2010
Activision doesn't need to do much more to get people excited about Call of Duty multiplayer than simply saying "Call of Duty multiplayer," but that's not stopping them from releasing a teaser trailer. That's good news for us, because this one's pretty slick. This teaser shows off plenty of explosions and kills from knives and remote-controlled cars, but perhaps the biggest bombshell comes after the end title. Stick around and see what looks to be a post-match video editor in action. Halo players already know how much fun this kind of functionality adds to the game, and we can't wait to learn more about it.Video is in the link below.http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/08/09/call-of-duty-black-ops-multiplayer-trailer.aspxSource: Game Informer
Halo Reach running on the PlayStation 3?!
August 09, 2010
"This is really funny. We came across this funny image which shows Halo Reach, a Xbox 360 exclusive running on a PlayStation 3  kisok. Apparently the store used their only display unit in the Games section to help promote a new game in order to create interest and potential revenue for the store. A clear case of popping a dvd in a wrong hardware.  Check the image out."Source: Gaming Bolt
Playstation 4 - Story so Far
August 08, 2010
From Mike Muncatchy of www.digitalvideogamer.com, "The future of the Playstation brand is almost upon us! Here is a look at what we might see out of the new behemoth sitting in Sony’s super secret testing labs, presumably guarded by armed sentries. In the fascinatingly quick moving world of technological breakthroughs, a vision of the next next-generation of consoles can be filled with volumetric smoke and pixel shaded mirrors. Sony, as a technology manufacturing giant, is often easier to watch, as their technology typically pops up in multiple hardware divisions and patents before jumping into a shiny new gaming box. Another way of viewing their procession into the future is to take a look back at the hardware they have released, and examine patterns that could re-appear in their future system. This method, combined with recently released information regarding patents, should give us a more accurate view of what we could be getting our sweaty palms on in the future."Read More: Click HereDigital Video Gamer
Transformers MMORPG Rolling Out In 2011
August 03, 2010
NetDragon, the Chinese developer tasked to bring EA's Dungeon Keeper franchise to the MMO arena, is also working on a Transformers MMORPG for 2011 release. As of now, NetDragon only plans to publish Transformers Online in China, and other select markets in Asian, Russia/CIS, and MENA. Of course, you can never rule out the interest of a western publisher, especially with a brand as big as Transformers. No other details have been given at the moment. I hope Netdragon is working within the Generation 1 timeline, but outside of Activision's recently released War for Cybertron game, it would appear Hasbro is making a strong push for all things Transformers to tie in with the motion picture timeline. The latest batch of toys and the upcoming television series Transformers: Primed are at least partially based on Michael Bay's vision.Regardless of what it ends up being, this is an exciting announcement for Transformers fans. NetDragon's chairman and executive director Liu Dejian certainly sounds excited. “As a brand and a cultural icon, Transformers is already a household name in China, and we are extremely honored to be able to join hands with Hasbro to bring the excitement and fanaticism of Transformers into the online gaming sector," Dejian said. "We firmly believe that through the hard work of NetDragon’s passionate and creative employees, we will be able to create a game that will stand the test of time for Transformers fans and hobbyists around the globe.”Source: Gameinformer
